On Friday, 24th of November, 6pm, Daniel Muzyczuk will engage in a conversation with Anastasia Sosunova, the author of the current DIY exhibition at “Editorial”. The two will share their insights into the exhibition and how their collaboration relates to the research and writing they have been invested in over the past few years. They have been both interested in the role of conspiracies in production of texture of everyday life and the question how one investigates these plots without falling into another form of paranoid thinking.

Anastasia Sosunova is a visual artist based in Vilnius. Her multidisciplinary work combining video, installation, sculpture and graphics grows from personal histories and their entanglements with broader cultural, economic, and spiritual structures. She graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts with BA in Graphic Arts and MA in Sculpture. Solo and duo presentations of her work include Eastcontemporary gallery, Milan; Cell Project Space, London, and SixtyEight Art Institute, Copenhagen; Britta Rettberg, Munich; Screens Series programme, New Museum in New York. DIY by Anastasia Sosunova is an exhibition revolving around a video journal of a friends’ road trip to places of power in pursuit of transcendence and selfie spots, inventing a devotional DIY subculture as they go. A kind of pilgrimage exploring the ideas, symbols and values of one-man self-religion, in search of esoteric spirituality concealed behind DIY ideology and the tools that offer meaning to an otherwise chaotic world. But this fandom is, in some sense, ‘the force of things piled up in floods of stories and objects piled up on the landscape”. It is utility wear dyke fashion, carabiners, car nerds, femme gel nails and eye shadow designs of yellow-red-black colors. It’s a story that welds wellness, pole dance and scaffolding poles together inside of the rusty steel carcass yet to be cemented. All of this in anticipation of the DIY prophet: after all, everyone is building their own, private machines for salvation.

The exhibition and it’s programme is supported by Lithuanian Council for Culture and Vilnius municipality. The production of a video piece was supported by MO museum. We are grateful for Lewben Art Foundation for their technical equipment.

The show will run until December 2nd, 2023. Editorial is open Wednesdays – Fridays 3 – 7 pm, and Saturdays 12 – 4 pm
